The Fallen Nature

16 12 2010

A short while back, I was watching a random news report in the break room with my very conservative manager. The topic of war, specifically the “War on Terrorism”, was brought up. I politely said my piece about how I didn’t believe in war or violence of any sort and his honest question to me was, in Bush’s situation, what would I have done?

I didn’t have a good answer then. I don’t think there is a good answer. On the one hand, people die; and on the other hand, people die. It’s a lose-lose situation. My response is that there isn’t a good solution because long ago, we as a human race forsook that Utopian society we might have had. We forsook the love of God for the love of self; forsook the Immaterial for love of material; forsook the plan of grace and love for one of murder and hatred.

There is no good answer because we are fallen as a human race.

But I believe that despite all this, Christ has called Christians to lay down their arms and take up his cross. To be hated by the world. To be shamed. To die. But we are not told this without the wisdom and knowledge that in death is victory. For who can fight terrorism with more terrorism? Who can fight murder with more murder?

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.
Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”
–Martin Luther King, Jr.

I Heard the Bells On Christmas Day

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day
Their old familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

I thought how, as the day had come,
The belfries of all Christendom
Had rolled along the unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

And in despair I bowed my head:
“There is no peace on earth,” I said,
“For hate is strong and mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good will to men.”

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
“God is not dead, nor doth he sleep;
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail,
With peace on earth, good will to men.”

Till, ringing singing, on its way,
The world revolved from night to day,
A voice, a chime, a chant sublime,
Of peace on earth, good will to men!

Terrorist, Pt. II

23 02 2010

But I am a terrorist: my failure to help others is often times much worse than anything these jihad radicals have done. I rob the poor of their money. I starve the hungry. I slaughter people with my words. Someone, lock me away.

A corporate meeting is a conspiracy against the proletariat. The homeless are publicly executed by the poisons of apathy. We teach our children to kill whether its by gang violence or the well-praised American soldier. Our church steeples and national monuments stand erect as monuments to presidential propaganda. We teach patriotism as a way of life and through our nationalism we kill the innocents of the President’s enemies in our hearts.

We seem to believe that things have changed since the persecution of the early Christians. We believe the church has at last triumphed over the powers of this world through this goddess named America.

What we do not see, what we fail to understand, is that we have let Christianity crumble and fall to her death at the hands of Molech and Mammon. We pledge allegiance to the goddess America and to her sacrifice the blood of the President’s enemies. We confess our faith in her image, that by it we will be able to purchase our sustenance. We accept America, our beloved goddess, as Vicar of Christ. Hail, America, the salvation of the world! May all who curse her suffer unimaginable deaths!

This is the carnal sin of world-lust. Father, can these dry bones of Christianity live? Christ, surely you will resurrect your bride?

Terrorist

22 02 2010

In the middle ages, Christians were the terrorists. In fact, almost the entire span of Christianity has been spent with the religion murdering someone somewhere. So lest we be hypocrites, how can we hate Muslims so much?

People say things like “once a Muslim, always a Muslim” and “all Muslims are the same”. Not all Christians are the same. No matter how many Christians have killed by the point of a sword, I will never take up a weapon. Why are Muslims different?

Anti-Islamic mentality is foolishness. If we apply the same logic to ourselves, we would see that. If I am a Christian, why am I not murdering for my faith as my predecessors and contemporaries are doing? All Christians are the same, right? People should expect terror from names like “Amanda”. All Caucasians are terrorists.

America is blinded by racism, hate and blood-lust. If her people could see that, we’d be headed in the right direction.
